With more than 20 years of experience working with at-risk youth, he brings a practical, growth-focused approach to personal development services.
In recent years, his work has focused on providing mental health services while serving on the campus of Mt. Meigs through programming contracted by Auburn University’s ABSOPP Program. In addition to his work in residential settings, Elijah gained valuable clinical experience providing counseling services in community and outpatient environments under professional supervision, supporting individuals and families facing trauma, behavioral challenges, and life transitions.
His work also includes specialized services connected with the Youth Services Institute at the University of Alabama, as well as diversion programming recognized by the Alabama Department of Youth Services.
A former collegiate multi-sport athlete at the University of Louisville and the University of Tennessee at Martin, Elijah credits athletics with shaping his understanding of perseverance, discipline, and overcoming adversity.
He incorporates several evidence-based therapeutic approaches in his work, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, and Reality Therapy. His focus is on helping individuals build self-awareness, process difficult experiences, develop practical coping strategies, and make intentional decisions that support long-term growth.
As a husband, father, brother, and friend, Elijah understands firsthand the importance of strong relationships and supportive communities. Through New Leaf Counseling & Development, he remains committed to helping individuals and families turn difficult chapters into new beginnings.
